Phase-out of synthetic refrigerants
Synthetic refrigerants are being replaced by natural refrigerants because of their environmental impact. Synthetic refrigerants contribute to global warming and often have a high Global Warming Potential (GWP). In contrast, natural refrigerants, such as CO₂, ammonia and propane, have a lower GWP and are less harmful to the environment. CO₂ is non-flammable, unlike propane, and non-toxic, which is an advantage over ammonia.
